Mouthwash can quickly change how fresh the mouth feels, but that does not automatically mean it has removed the cause of an unpleasant odour.
Where can bad breath come from?
Common causes related to the mouth include tongue coating, inadequate cleaning between the teeth, dry mouth and gum problems. There are also causes that are not directly related to the teeth.
What does mouthwash do?
Depending on the formula, it may support particular parts of oral hygiene and provide a fresh feeling. It should not, however, be used to mask a symptom for a long time.
When should you seek advice?
If bad breath persists despite regular hygiene and cleaning the tongue and interdental spaces, consult a dentist and, if necessary, a doctor.
