After coffee, the surface of the tongue can look darker, especially when dry mouth is also present. Coating may be more noticeable in the morning because saliva flow decreases during sleep.
A simple routine
Drink water after coffee. Gently clean your tongue as part of your regular routine rather than after every cup. Excessive scraping can irritate the tongue's papillae.
If the coating keeps an unusual appearance regardless of coffee, or is accompanied by pain, burning or changes in the mucosa, seek professional advice.
